We started my illustration mentorship through weekly meetings going over the foundations of illustration, composition and color. Keeping that new knowledge in mind I started to explore illustrating figures, hands, faces, and flowers. We went into what builds a strong collection of work in a large scale and on a small scale (like mini collections). I experimented with various styles while learning about expressive illustration storytelling. Rounding out the end of the mentorship I invited to participate in a Global Collection build for Birthday & MASC/Father’s Day. I illustrated over thirty assets to be used on product for future programs.
We started my lettering mentorship by practicing pointed pen, which taught me the basics of lettering, line and motion. We moved onto brush lettering using a wide variety of mediums: from Tombows, brush and ink to paint pens. We covered a variety of styles, lock up techniques and merging lettering and illustration. Simultaneously growing my digital skills, I became proficient in Procreate and started to find my style which I brought to Hallmark product by the end of the mentorship and onward to present day.
